People I Saw But Never Met

Artist Zadok Ben-David installation comprised of over 3,000 chemically etched miniature figures each individual was pulled from photographs taken by Ben-David during his travels across Europe, the United States, Central Asia, Australia, and Antarctica, creating a diverse assemblage of various cultures and people.

I love this, I often wonder while traveling about the strangers I pass and their lives.

Paradoxically, the ability to be alone is the condition for the ability to love.

Thoughts on international women’s day.

Girls, and I say girls because if you still see the world this way, you are not yet a woman, no matter your age.

I think to become a woman means a lot of things. One of them, that also goes towards being a decent human being in general… is that you need to learn how to build other women up, and not tear them down.

It’s like Yertle the turtle 🐢 right? The dr. Seuss story? A simple concept to grasp yet I see it everyday. Why do girls still think if they can just be better than, if they can stand on top of enough other woman that they are worth more?

Social media is getting to be a terrible breeding ground for it. Just because someone else has something you don’t. Doesn’t mean they are taking it away from you, it doesn’t mean you can’t have those things too. It’s like some have their in the clouds, not really worried about whether they are making it rain below them because they are on top, basking in the glow of their superiority. But at night, it’s lonely up there, with all your other fake friends and empty pixels, it gets really quite is cold when the sun goes in, when your phone dies, when the attention of the men, of the strangers from the world that you’ve been crying out for is turned away. The same goes for every day life, you’re judging other women that you have no idea about, where they came from this morning or what they went through last night or last year. There is a reason everyone is the way they are, and until you know it I judge you for judging, for any act that degrades someone for trying.

Now, the women. Those that see other women and girls as their equal no matter what. No matter what they look like, what they do for a living, how much they have in their bank accounts or whether they have one at all. Whether they speak the same language, or see the world in a different way. Women that just care whether you are a good person. Well, they are all keeping each other warm with their feet placed firmly on the ground. There’s dancing down there in the rain, and love and laughter. There are real tears and hugs and compassion. You can come down from your clouds girls, you can choose to join the the women today.

Do something that builds someone else up. Love yourself in a way that doesn’t require others to feel bad about themselves, love yourself no matter of others opinions.

Don’t ever compete for attention from anyone you don’t know, or you’ll end up a puppet in one of life’s little grotesque shows, you’ll lose yourself. And I’m telling you that would be a pity, I know that with certainty.

So for at least a day when you have the perfect excuse. Stop hate. Stop abuse. Stop judging. Stop searching for self validation in a sea of clicking fingers. Come and put your feet back on the ground. Come dance in the rain. It’s warm, and free and tastes more like living.
